OK people. There is good news. Monkey Bar is now open for lunch so if you are in the Camac Street area in the afternoon and looking for a place to eat good food, drink some amazing cocktails and enjoy a splendid view, drop in to MoBar. And if you are there before 1st April, don’t forget to try out the tacos that are part of the Taco Libre festival.
You can choose from five vegetarian and non-vegetarian tacos. I loved the slightly sweet Sausage and Pulled Pork Taco with bacon, spicy barbeque sauce, red cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado and pulled pork. The Blackened Cajun Style Shrimp with pineapple salsa and paprika mayo was another favorite. I thought Beer Can Chicken Taco would have beer as one of the ingredients but no such luck :D. It has shredded chicken, crumbled cottage cheese and jalapeno sauce and pretty good too. Vegetarians will like the Mushroom, Bean and Corn Taco with chipotle mayonnaise bell pepper, sour cream, jalapeno and cheddar.
If my friends read this, they will probably faint but my favorite out of everything was the pulled Jackfruit Taco. The sweet and spicy jackfruit goes beautifully with the contrasting flavors of the pickled onions, avocado and the sour cream. Even if you are a hardcore carnivore, try it!
I was very excited to see a dessert taco in the menu and it did not disappoint. The Banoffee Taco with spiced dulce-de leche pastry cream, peanut praline, caramelized bananas, vanilla cream sprinkled with coffee and chocolate crumble makes for a delightful end to any meal and I sincerely hope MoBar puts it on their regular menu soon.
The Taco Libre festival at Monkey Bar Kolkata is on till 31st March. They have some new cocktails in the menu as well and I would recommend the Curry Martini and The Trump Card.
