As the temperature in my city hits a nasty 36 degrees today, I feel like running away to the hills once again. Especially to the beautiful Aamari Resort in Ramgarh, 22 kms from Nainital. If you follow me on social media, you must have seen my posts from the resort earlier this month. That weekend was by far one of the best and most relaxing holidays in a really long time. The mountains, fresh air, lots of greenery and a luxurious resort. What else do you need for a wonderful getaway?
If you are coming from Delhi, which I did, it takes around 7 hours to reach Ramgarh. It is a long drive and can get a bit tedious but thankfully the roads aren’t that bad and after Kathgodam, the drive up to the hills is extremely pleasant. Ramgarh is still quite unexplored and that is the beauty of the place. It is far removed from the hustle and bustle of Nainital and the beauty lies in its serenity, exquisiteness and tranquility. And at Ramgarh, the best place to stay at is definitely, Aamari Resort.
My friend Chandreyee and me reached Aamari around 6 in the evening and we were immediately mesmerized by the beauty of the place. Nestled amidst tall pine trees, the resort is a huge property and there is such a peaceful vibe to it. I had requested for a room with a view of the Himalayas and we were taken to a room located higher up near the car parking area. It was a well designed, clean and comfortable room with a huge glass window overlooking the valley. If you are staying at Aamari, definitely ask for rooms located higher up because the view that you will wake up to in the morning is beyond beautiful. Just imagine looking at the snow-clad Himalayas lying in bed having your morning cup of tea.
The property is landscaped beautifully. Hand-painted beer and vodka bottles hang from a tree near the reception area. There is an infinity pool that overlooks the garden and the sit out area next to the pool is perfect to spend idyllic evenings . Unlike any other resort I’ve been to in the hills, there is also a mini-ziplining and rope bridge next to the swings. There is a game room that houses a foozball table, table tennis, carom, chess and other board games. For spa junkies, Nebesa Spa offers massages, reflexology, facials, salon services, meditation and yoga sessions.
The resort has one restaurant and they offer a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is quite an elaborate affair with cereals, milk shake, paranthas, dosas, idlis, baked beans, hash browns etc. The buffet lunch and dinner is primarily vegetarian but they give you non-veg dishes on order. We also ordered room service quite a few times during the stay and I was really impressed by the quality of the food and the service. I loved the mutton biryani, kababs and the rogan josh especially.
From Aamari, there are quite a few places that you can visit. We went to Mukteshwar which is about an hour and a half drive from the resort. At Mukteshwar, you can visit the Mukteshwar temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Behind the temple is Chauli ki Jali which literally means rock hole. This place offers a splendid view of the Himalayan range and Kumaon valley. If you are adventurous enough, you can also try rock climbing. Nainital is around 1.5 hr drive from Aamari and there, you can go to Gurney House and take a tour of Jim Corbett’s residence, see the old St. John in the Wilderness church that was established way back in 1844, go to Tiffin Top and Land’s End for breathtaking views of the Himalayas and Nainital and of course, spend some time boating in Naini lake.
If you don’t want to go too far then fret noz coz Aamari organises a number of trekking activities near the resort itself. You can check out the native homes of Uttaranchal called Adobe houses, do bird watching, visit Tagore Top, the cottage where Rabindranath Tagore composed some parts of the Nobel-winning Gitanjali, book a jeep safari to the thick jungles that surround the resort and also try out soft adventure sports like hiking, rappelling, rock climbing, mountain biking etc.
Aamari Resort offers something to every traveler. Whether you are the adventurous type or just looking for a relaxed holiday in the mountains, this is a resort that you will love. It is peaceful, the service is excellent, the people are very friendly, the rooms are nice, the food is good and they have everything you need for a perfect getaway in the hills.
