If you stay in Salt Lake or work in the Sec V/Rajarhat area, I’m sure you have heard about Bakstage, the Resto Rock Pub. It came as a blessing for people who work in that area because till then, apart from a few restaurants, there was no place where you could go to after work to unwind, have a few drinks, listen to good music and also eat good food. Bakstage changed all that three years back and even though a few similar places have opened since then, the original one still rocks!
Bakstage is divided into two sections. The ground floor has the cafe and bakery and the first floor is where all the pub action takes place. Every day something or the other keeps happening like Sufi Wednesdays, Karaoke Thursdays etc. Right now, they are having the Octoberfest till 3rd Oct so if you want to guzzle a few beers, head over there. I visited Bakstage a few days back and tasted some dishes from their latest menu. Since I went there after work, I was advised to try out the Beer Margarita, a mammoth drink! It has the ‘goodness’ of a margarita and a beer together so you can very well imagine what the after effect will be like. If you have had a particularly rough day at work and just want to drown yourself in alcohol, this is the perfect drink!
I had lovely chicken kababs which they have named as Sharabi Kababi Flambee. These are chicken kababs with a meat filling. Why Sharabi Kababi? Because the kababs are flambeed on the table before they are served which makes for a very interesting sight. Next up, was a Tandoori Chicken and Roasted Chili Nazza and if you don’t know what a Nazza is, it is the Indian cousin of the Pizza. Basically, a thin crust naan with toppings. I’ve had Nazzas elsewhere and I absolutely love the concept. The tandoori chicken was soft, juicy and the topping was quite generous. Next time, I am trying the Dal Makhani Nazza! For the main course, I tried the Chicken Baoli Handi with Tandoori Roti and for dessert, the absolutely sinful Rum Mousse Cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. When you cut into the rich dark chocolate cake, the chocolate sauce inside oozes out and coupled with the cake and icecream, makes for a rather delectable dessert.
A lot of people know Bakstage as a pub with good music and drinks but mind you, they serve great food as well. Pay a visit to Salt Lake if you still have not visited this place!
