Barbeque by the Poolside at Cascades, Novotel Kolkata

January 27, 2017

Seated under the open sky holding a glass of mojito, chatting with friends and the smell of fresh grilled meat wafting by, “Yes, I think to myself, What a wonderful world“. An ambience as magical as the one at Cascades will do that to you. You will think all is well in the world, there are no worries and everything is perfect just as the Honey, Mustard and Soy marinated Chicken Breast and the Biryani served to you a little while later. Want to experience what I did last weekend? Go this Friday or Saturday and enjoy a Barbeque by the Poolside at Cascades, Novotel Kolkata.

Lunch With Karen Anand & The Farmer’s Market At Taj Bengal

December 18, 2016

The ‘Martha Stewart of India’, a writer, a food critic, an anchor, a chef, a businesswoman, a consultant, a ‘food guru’ who has been influencing the way people eat and perceive good food for nearly 25 years, Karen Anand is an institution in herself. She is an inspiration to many in the food and wine business and it was my pleasure to have spent a wonderful afternoon with her at The Taj Bengal recently, courtesy the Pikturenama duo, Anindya and Madhushree. Karen was in the city for the Kolkata edition of her Farmers’ Market and she hosted a Bloggers Table for some of us at The Hub, Taj Bengal. The main topic of conversation? Of course, food! 😀

Karen Anand

Farmers’ Markets by Karen Anand are open air whole foods market featuring restaurants, wineries, gourmet foods, fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses & more. These markets are held annually across five cities in India and 2016 was the third edition of the Kolkata Market. This year, Karen introduced some new products in the Pune Farmers’ Market signature range of conserves, dressings and sauces and we were the first to get a taste of them in Kolkata. My favorite was the Tibetan Sauce and and the Singapore Chilli Garlic Sauce which had a hint of sweetness. The Wholegrain Mustard with Chilli was also a hit with the bloggers along with the two conserves – Alphonso Mango and Fig and Orange.

A Fun Day Out – Here’s All About Our Unique Food Walk With Sensodyne

December 13, 2016

So there I was, spending my time writing new posts for the blog, testing out new eateries, attending events et al. when the toothpaste giant Sensodyne in partnership with So Kolkata brought forth an exciting food walk concept before me.

A walk to educate us on the issue of tooth sensitivity, helping people eat and enjoy their favourite dishes exactly how they should! It’s simple – #EnjoyLikeYouShould and that’s exactly what our day out was all about!

Sensodyne Food Walk

Sensodyne Food Walk

Sensodyne wanted to bring together a group of people, actual tooth sensitivity sufferers who had been using Sensodyne for a number of months. They would be taken to three popular eateries in Kolkata to sample a range of dishes without the fear of tooth sensitivity. Along with this group, three of us bloggers would also join in, sharing our thoughts about Kolkata and its culinary heritage!

We headed to the food hub of Kolkata, the iconic Park Street to take on our food walk. Read on to know exactly how it turned out!

Flurys

We started out with Flurys, one of Kolkata’s most iconic landmarks. Open since 1927, Flurys is an elegant English design tearoom serving cakes, pastries, sandwiches, ice-creams, beverages and much more. At Flurys, we were served the chilled Flurys Sundae – a mix of Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry ice-cream with fruits and whipped cream. This has been one of my favorite things from the Flurys menu and while I thoroughly enjoyed my sundae, it was also heartening to see that the tooth sensitivity sufferers did not bat an eyelid and happily enjoyed it without any discomfort!

Flurys

Restored and happily stimulated, we bid our reluctant goodbyes to the warmth of Flurys and ventured out onto Park Street, making a beeline towards the second stop of the food walk.

Cha Bar, Oxford Book Store

Another iconic landmark on Park Street, the Oxford Book Store is one of the oldest book stores in the city. Apart from the excellent collection of books, Cha Bar on the 1st floor is another reason for me to frequent this place and this was our next destination.

Over a few cups of tea, all of us indulged in a great adda session, another of Kolkata’s passions. We spoke about food, travel, politics and what not! I chose to have the piping hot Darjeeling tea which is my favourite at Cha Bar while there were some who opted for the regular tea with milk.

The happy users of Sensodyne made a smooth transition from the chilled sundae to the hot tea without a worry in their head about any tooth sensitivity!

Thoroughly satiated, we then made our way to the last and final stop – Bodega Cantina Y Bar.

Bodega Cantina Y Bar

The newest kid on Park Street, Bodega Cantina Y Bar is an ideal place for long lunches and we love the ambience of the place with its funky decor, natural light and soul food!

Here, we were served a huge glass of frozen Margarita. Every bit refreshing, this drink was served ice-cold. What would otherwise have caused a lot of anxiety for tooth sensitivity users, here, they glugged down their Frozen Margaritas without the fear of any sensitivity in their teeth.

Wrapping up our delightful food walk, we were all praises for the unique initiative taken up by Sensodyne and So Kolkata, the dishes we tried, the people we got to hang out with, the overall culinary sojourn we embarked upon and the fact that we got to rediscover the chic charm that Park Street holds for us.
