Four ColourPop Lux Lipsticks – Review & Swatches

April 24, 2018

After wearing only matte liquid lipcolors, the return to traditional, creamy bullet lipstick feels kinda good actually. And the new ColourPop Lux Lipsticks are making that transition a very smooth process!

ColourPop Lux Lipstick

This range is new from ColourPop Cosmetics and the lipsticks are described as a “creamy-matte” that “glides on like butter, doesn’t feather or bleed, and lasts so long you’ll forget you’re even wearing it.” There are 24 shades in this range and I have four of them – Friends, Hello Stranger, Sitting Pretty and On Repeat.

ColourPop Lux Lipstick Shades

  • Friends – Rich, dark brown
  • Hello Stranger – Deep burgundy
  • Sitting Pretty – Purple fuchsia
  • On Repeat – Orange Red

ColourPop Lux Lipstick Review & Swatches

The ColourPop Lux Lipsticks look really pretty and very chic with their rose gold packaging and stars embossed on the actual lipstick bullet. They look much more high-end and definitely not like a $7 product but mind you, these lipsticks are actually quite heavy as in, heavier than normal lipstick bullets.

In terms of formula, ColourPop nailed it. They are very well pigmented. One swipe and you get full color payoff. They glide on the lips like butter and all the shades I have go on very well without being patchy. Athough ColourPop describes these lipsticks as ‘Creamy Matte’, they feel more like a satin formula to me. And unlike liquid lipsticks, these do not last for too long and they do transfer. But then, that’s the same with all normal, creamy lipsticks.

Like I wrote earlier, after using only liquid matte lipsticks and mostly the ColourPop Ultra Matte ones, these Lux lipsticks feel like a refreshing change. The only issue is that you have to keep on reapplying after 3-4 hours but the lips look all plumpy, creamy and they feel hydrated. For the price of $7, I won’t mind that.

Have you tried the new ColourPop Lux Lipsticks? Which is your favourite shade? Do share in the comments below.

Lakme Absolute Reinvent Nudes Collection

One of the most common lipstick related concerns that most of us have is “Which nude lipstick will work on my skin tone without making me look sick or washed out“? With the new Lakme Absolute Reinvent Nudes Collection, the answer to that question is here. The collection not only includes six new nude shades in the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color range but also an eyeshadow palette, kohl pencils, nail colors and mousse foundation, all of which are created to suit the Indian skin tone. I received the PR package yesterday so need some time to play with the products but if you want to know my first impression of them and take a look at the swatches, read on.

The Body Shop India Jacqueline’s Signature Line 2.0 Review & Makeup Look

January 26, 2018

Jacqueline Fernandez, face of The Body Shop India is out with her second limited edition makeup collection in collaboration with the brand. This time around, The Body Shop India Jacqueline’s Signature Line 2.0 includes a matte foundation, mascara, eye shadow crayon and shine lip liquid. I have five products from the collection and in this post, will be sharing my thoughts on them and showing you a makeup look that I created using these five products. Let’s get started.

The Body Shop India Jacqueline's Signature Line 2.0

Matte Clay Skin Clarifying Foundation (Rs 1195) – This is a matte high coverage foundation, available in seven shades. I have Moluccan Nutmeg and it is the perfect match for my NC43.5 skin tone. This foundation is said to have mattifying clay and purifying tea tree so it should be good for those with oily skin. I was in London last two weeks and wore this foundation extensively. I really like the matte, natural finish, the good coverage, the fact that it is light and does not clog pores and that it does not oxidise. However, I have only used it in freezing temperatures so the real test will be when I wear it in summer. If it stays matte in that humidity as well then I’ll become a fan for life.

Lash Hero Fibre Extension Mascara (Rs 1395) – This is a two-step mascara, combining a base mascara formula with lengthening fibres. The mascara is available in four shades and I have Texas Topaz, a bright blue. Usually with coloured mascara, the colour hardly shows up on the lashes but this one is different. You can clearly make out the blue and it stays for a long time without fading or irritating the eyes. The lengthening fibres instantly volumises and extends the appearance of lashes. This one is a winner for me.

High-definition Metallic Eye Colour Stick (Rs 945) – I am extremely fond of coloured liners and eye shadow pencils and if you are as well, you will love them. I have the shade Bogota Emerald, a beautiful metallic dark green teal colour. The stick is very easy to use and can be worn both as an eye shadow and eye liner. It is soft, easy to blend and stays for a long time without budging and fading. There are some very pretty shades in this range so definitely check them out. I am eyeing Siberian Quartz and Cyprus Bronze.

Illuminating & Nourishing Shine Lip Liquid (Rs 645) – Basically, these are shiny, moisturising lip glosses but very light and non-sticky. I have two shades – Apple Taffy, a light peachy nude (that does not make me look like a ghost) and Watermelon Fizz, a bright coral. Usually, I stay away from lip glosses but these have been really helpful in winter. They don’t make the lips dry, and the colours and the shine add freshness to the overall look. As with all glosses, they don’t stay long but the colours are really pretty and can be a good option if you are looking for something that’s more subtle. You can also layer them on top of matte lipsticks for the extra shine and to get more wear time.

This is the ‘Peacock Look’ that I’ve created using products from the The Body Shop India Jacqueline’s Signature Line 2.0.

Face – Matte Clay Skin Clarifying Foundation Moluccan Nutmeg, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush Feisty.

Eyes – Bogota Emerald all over the lids , Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear eye shadow on the crease, Texas Topaz on the lashes. On the waterline, I’ve applied Bogota Emerald mixed with a dark blue eye shadow and Texas Topaz on the lower lashes.

Lips – Apple Taffy and Watermelon Fizz

5 MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour Swatches

January 1, 2018

Happyyyy New Year pretty people!! Did you have a great celebration last night? I sure did chilling at home eating good food, drinking wine, and spending time with my family :). And today, so far, I am doing exactly the same things and loving it! I have a lot of hope for 2018 and I wish you all the very best of everything this year. It is said that if you start off a new year doing things you love, you will do it all through so here I am doing something I love. Blogging. And writing about something I love. Lipsticks. Specifically, MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours. I have written about them multiple times on the blog and if you have read this post, you will know that they were one of my favorite liquid lipsticks of 2017.

MAC Retro Matte Lipcolour

MAC Retro Matte Lipcolour

I really like the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula now. When they were first launched, the formula was very drying but the brand has changed it up a bit since then and now it is a lot better. Excellent pigmentation, a flat matte finish and very good staying power are the reasons why I advocate these liquid lipsticks. And I also like the color palette. From neutral to dark colors, there’s something for everyone and it is also fun to mix and match. You can mix as many colors as you want to create your unique shade, you can do ombre lips and you can also them as eye shadow and blush.

I recently added five shades to my kitty thanks to MAC. Well, actually four because one shade I had already but I included that as well. So here goes.

  • Oh, Lady – Purple Wine
  • Tailored to Tease – Bright Fuschia

My Favourite Makeup Products of 2017

December 31, 2017

Favourite Makeup Products of 2017

Favourite Makeup Products of 2017

2017 was a good year in terms of makeup. Number of new products were launched and the best part was that we got access to many international brands. For me, along with trying a lot of new launches, I re-discovered my love for some old favourites and they make it to the list as well. Without further ado, here goes my list of Favourite Makeup Products of 2017.

Favourite Makeup Products of 2017

Face Products :

Favourite Primer and Concealer of 2017

Favourite Primer and Concealer of 2017

Primer – Milani Prime Shield Mattifying + Pore-Minimizing Face Primer

I don’t use primer on a regular basis but this year, when I felt the need to use one, the product that I reached out to the most was the Milani Prime Shield Mattifying + Pore-Minimizing Face Primer. Not a new launch but I was quite intrigued by the description. The product claimed to ‘soften the appearance of fine lines, large pores and flaws and create a smooth canvas for makeup application‘.

I used the primer quite a bit during summer and really liked the texture. It is light, blends easily, mattifies the skin and gives a smooth canvas for makeup products to cling onto.

Concealer –  Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer & LA Girl Pro Concealer

These are the only two concealers I used the entire year. Kat Von D Lock-It has everything you want in a concealer – super creamy, brightens the under eye area, blends easily, provides full coverage, does not crease or fade and lasts for nearly 12-13 hours. The LA Girl Pro Concealer pretty much does the same things at a much lower price. The only difference is that it is not as thick, does not last for as long and is not as full coverage but an excellent concealer no doubt if you are looking for one to wear on an everyday basis.

Compact Powder – Lakme  9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation

I really liked the Lakme 9 to 5 Primer + Matte Powder Foundation. The texture is very creamy, gives decent coverage which is good for daily use, does not give a white cast and lasts for a long time as well.

Foundation – Deciem The Ordinary Lightweight Serum & High Coverage Foundation

Deciem The Ordinary Serum and High Coverage Foundation

Deciem The Ordinary Serum and High Coverage Foundation

Remember the foundation with a 25,000-person waitlist? Thankfully, I managed to get my hands on them and they are so worth the hype. The Serum Foundation has a lighter, liquid-y consistency and provides medium coverage. The HIgh Coverage Foundation is super concentrated and the best thing about it is that even though it provides excellent coverage, the face does not look unnatural or cake-y. The foundation stays put nearly the whole day and gives a matte finish. And the best part is that both foundations cost only $6.

Blush – ColourPop Super Shock Blush & Milani Rose Powder Blush

Favourite Blushes of 2017

Favourite Blushes of 2017

The brand I used the most in 2017 was ColourPop. They came out with very good quality products at low prices and apart from their lipsticks, I also loved their eye shadows and blushes. The Super Shock Shadows are super soft, have excellent pigmentation, do not look powdery on the skin and lasts pretty long too. The Milani Rose Powder Blush is another favourite. Gorgeous packaging, not too expensive, gives a matte finish, blends really well and gives a natural look.

Highlighter & Bronzer – theBalm Manizer Sisters Luminizing Palette

Favourite Highlighter of 2017

Favourite Highlighter of 2017

I tried a lot of highlighters this year. From Becca to Faces to Lakme to Wet n Wild etc but my all-time favourite will continue to be theBalm Manizer Sisters Luminizing Palette. Click the link above to know why I love these three sisters so much.

Setting Powder – RCMA No-Color Powder

RCMA No-Color Powder

RCMA No-Color Powder

The world went gaga over the RCMA No-Color Powder and so did I. It is a lightweight, finely milled powder that sets foundation without changing its colour.

Eye Products:

Brows – Maybelline Fashion Brow Pomade Crayon

This is the only brow product I used the entire year. The crayon is very easy to use and in only a couple of strokes, it covers empty patches and also sculpts and shapes the brows. Also, lasts for nearly the entire day.

Eye Shadow – ColourPop Super Shock & Pressed Powder Eye Shadow

ColourPop Eye Shadow

ColourPop Eye Shadow

For the price, these are the best eye shadows available in the market. Excellent pigmentation, no fallout, a wide range of shades and great staying power.

Mascara – Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara

I just started using this mascara after I got a sample in my November Sephora Play bag and it’s already become a favourite. This is an ultra-volumizing mascara that gives thick, mile-long lashes. Too good!

Other mascaras I loved are from Essence, BeYu and L’Oreal.

Kajal/Eye liner/Eye Pencil – Colorbar Waterproof Eyeshadow Stick, Colorbar I-Glide Eye Pencil, Plum Naturstudio Kajal, Nykaa Glamoreyes Liquid Eyeliners

Favourite eye makeup products in 2017

Favourite eye makeup products in 2017

When it comes to eye pencils, Colorbar has always been a favourite and this year, I’ve used a lot of their products. The Waterproof Eyeshadow Stick is excellent as a cream eye shadow and an eye liner and I love the I-Glide pencils for their range of shades, pigmentation and longevity.

The best kajal has got to be from Plum. It is jet black and stays put without fading or smudging. This year, I also used a lot of liquid eyeliners and I loved the Nykaa Glamoreyes Liquid Eyeliner range. Lovely jewel-toned shades and good quality.

Lip Products

Lip Balm – Maybelline Baby Lips Candy Rush Lip Balm

An old old favourite. This year, Maybelline came out with quite a few variants in the Baby Lips range and I loved the Candy Rush balms.

Lip Liner – MAC Soar, ColourPop Lippie Pencil

MAC’s Soar Lip Liner will make it to each and everyone of my favourites list year after year. It is the perfect pink nude shade and I not only use it as a lip liner but also as a lipstick. ColourPop’s Lippie Pencils are also a favourite because they are really creamy, go on easily and stays put. The only problem is that they are not retractable pencils so you do need to sharpen them.

Lipstick – Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick

Undoubtedly, the best matte lipstick formula out there. My favourite is the shade Queen, a gorgeous bright pink-red. I love the formula of the Matte Revolution lipsticks because they apply like a dream and not drying at all. If you love matte lippies, this is one range you must try.

Liquid Lipstick – MAC Retromatte, ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lips, The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid, Sephora Cream Lip Stain

Favourite Liquid Lipsticks of 2017

Favourite Liquid Lipsticks of 2017

I’ve tried a lot of liquid lipsticks but these are the ones I go back to most of the time. MAC Retromattes now have a new formula which is not as drying, The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids have a lovely mousse like texture, apply smoothly and dry down to a velvet matte finish. If you have not tried any lipstick from the Sephora Cream Lip Stain range, you must get one now because these lipsticks with their excellent pigmentation and staying power are one of the best in the market. And if you like the stained lip look, try the ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lips. Less opaque than the Ultra Mattes and Ultra Satins but they last for hours.

That’s it folks.  These were my Favourite Makeup Products of 2017 and I’d love to know your list. Do share in the comments below. And whoever is reading this, I wish you and your family a brilliant 2018. May all your wishes come true 🙂

P.S – I have only included products that I use so you won’t find a contouring product, eye shadow primer or BB/CC cream on the list.
