Every time friends who stay in other cities come to Kolkata, I know I’ll have to accompany them to various places in the city to let them savor Kolkata’s brilliant street food. North Kolkata’s ‘Tele Bhaja‘ , Park Street’s famous rolls, Vivekananda Park’s ‘Phuchka‘, Maidan’s ‘Jhalmuri‘ etc etc. We cover them all. I so wish my friends were here now because I would have taken them to K19, the all day dining restaurant at Park Plaza, Ballygunge where the Kolkata Street Food Festival is currently on. Would have saved me so much travel 😀
Last Friday I was invited to Serafina, the North Italian cuisine restaurant at Quest Mall and I can honestly say that I had one of my best meals in recent times that day. Serafina is the brainchild of owners Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato and Kolkata is their third location in India after Mumbai and Bangalore.
I loved the relaxed atmosphere and the European cafe like vibe with the addition of tables outside the main restaurant. And in keeping with its Italian roots, there is also a Vespa parked outside :D. The traditional woodstone pizza oven is a standout feature in the outlet and once you have the pizzas, you can figure out the difference in taste between a regular pizza and one that has the wood fired flavor . They also have a well-stocked bar with a variety of wines and liquor.
What is the first word that comes to your mind when you hear the word Shack? I bet 80% of you will say Goa. Right? And then if you are not from Goa, you will go on to say how you miss the shacks, the food, the drinks, the beach, the sunrise, sunset and the ambience. Well, if you are in Kolkata, you can enjoy a near similar shack experience (minus the sea and sand of course) at Smoke Shack, the rooftop bar at Hotel Park Plaza.
Spread over an area of 8,000 square feet, with space for 114 guests, Smoke Shack is an award-winning rooftop restaurant presenting an upmarket, open-air dining option with some of the most delicious barbecue in Kolkata. The restaurant offers a rustic yet elegant ambience through the traditional “shack” concept from Goa, alongside an island bar unique to the city of Kolkata and a dance floor for party enthusiasts. The Smoke Shack provides sizzling live barbecues, fiery cocktails and a giant screen that offers live entertainment to set the mood for a perfect evening.
The Irish House at Quest Mall in Kolkata opened mid last year and ever since, it has become one of my favorite places to hangout in the city. I love the ambience, the decor, the feel of the place, the retro music and these guys make a pretty mean Mexican Mojito. I must admit that I always go there during Happy Hours which is from 4 pm – 7 pm every day (don’t judge me but the 1+1 offer is way too tempting) and I’ve never really eaten much except nachos, tacos and fries. On Saturday, I was invited by The Irish House for brunch along with a few fellow bloggers and I got to taste some dishes from their pretty extensive menu and I was impressed. Not only do they make excellent cocktails and serve great draught beer, their main course items and desserts are good too.

As I sit down to write this post, there’s only one thought that is going around in my head. “If only I could get the food that I had at Tamra right now”. And what glorious food it was!
Tamra is a new all day dining 189 seater restaurant that has opened up at Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel in the heart of New Delhi. Tamra takes inspiration from the early ages of culinary evolution when copper (tamra) vessels were key components in making a perfect meal. Tamra’s interactive kitchens are a tribute to the early market place, where Chefs showcased their skills and produced culinary delights to sell to traders and visitors.
