It is 2.00 a.m. and I’ve just spent nearly two hours in front of my laptop aimlessly surfing my favourite online shopping website and updating my detailed excel spread sheet of the things I want to buy (yes, I do have one and it is precious!). This was not what I was supposed to be doing by the way. Like a very good girl who always meets deadlines, I was supposed to be writing a blog post!
At 4.00 a.m. with the post having gone for a toss, I at last switch off my darling lappy and stagger to bed thinking what we would do without online shopping websites and God bless the person who came up with this concept. Can we even imagine a life without these nowadays? No right. But what if one day these websites cease to exist or as is rampant nowadays, are banned? We are told that nothing will be available online henceforth. From buying grocery to booking tables at restaurants to shopping for clothes, shoes etc., we can only use our mobile phone. And incidentally, I am given the task of coming up with some ideas that would reinvent the future of fashion in a mobile only world (hypothetical situation but one can always imagine).
Want to know what 5 ideas I would come up with? Keep reading…
Celeb Style – Liked an outfit that Deepika Padukone wore in her new movie or looking for the same dress that you saw Shraddha Kapoor wear in her latest ad? You can get all of them in one single app. Just browse through the celeb looks and outfits and buy them directly from the app itself!
Peer shopping – There’s nothing like going shopping with your friends right? What if the same experience is provided in an app? You set up a community of like-minded fashion conscious peers and suggest products for each other. You can share what you buy, get recommendations and votes, suggest products for one another, search for and find items you want in specific sizes and price etc. You can also tap into your inner fashion stylist and designer and create your own lookbook. Upload them on the app and share with your friends.
Try and buy – Next up would be an app that would allow you to try out outfits and accessories in real-time and then buy them directly from the app.
Sale alerts – This one would definitely be a sure shot hit. An app that sends notifications when there is a sale on items that you like. Say you’ve wanted to buy a particular dress for a long time and you’ve been looking at it repeatedly but the high price is setting you back. The app records your behaviour and then sends you a notification if the dress is anytime available on sale. Similarly for products that are saved in your wishlist or cart.
Personal shopper – This one will be for the super lazy or the super busy J No time to go to stores or browse for products? Just key in your requirements and a personal shopper will be assigned to you depending on your location who will do your shopping for you.
I do have some more ideas but will stick to these five for now. What would you come up with if you were asked to reinvent the future of fashion in a mobile only world? And do you use a fashion shopping app? The only one I use and love is the Myntra app which actually does quite a few things mentioned above. Do share your thoughts in the comments below.
