Happy New Year my pretties! I hope 2017 is our best year ever and there is an abundance of love, prosperity and happiness. This is the first post of the new year and I was in two minds about what to write. Should I write a beauty related post or a food or a travel one? It is said that whatever you do on the first day of the year, you will do throughout so after much contemplation, I decided to go for a food related post. I would absolutely not mind eating wonderful food throughout the year especially if it is as delicious as the food that is served at JW Kitchen, the all day-diner at JW Marriott Hotel Kolkata.
Whenever something new opens up, there is obviously a level of curiosity but with JW Marriott, the curiosity level has been insane! It was practically impossible to get a reservation at JW Kitchen during the first month of its launch. The first time I went, I was celebrating my parents’ anniversary there and I finally understood why everyone was going crazy over the restaurant. The food is excellent, the buffet spread is huge, the dessert section is probably the best in the city right now and most importantly, the food is not exorbitantly priced.
JW Kitchen is huge and I like that the atmosphere is very warm and cheerful. There is an abundance of sunlight during the day and at night, because of the glass and the steel, everything sparkles and shines. There are four interactive culinary hubs inside the restaurant – Asian + Indian+ local, Western, Indian appetizers and Dessert. I’ve always gone for the buffet spread there but they also have a wonderful a la carte menu. At a bloggers meet at JW Kitchen recently, I tasted a few of the special dishes from the a la carte menu recommended by the Chef.
Father Michel’s Burrata is a lovely salad made with fresh burrata and San Marzano tomatoes. The Pulled BBQ Jackfruit Sliders were a revelation! Yes, you read that correct. Jackfruit sliders with appleslaw, iceberg lettuce and chipotle mayonnaise. Jackfruit is something I stay far, far away from but those burgers were so good! Would highly recommend that dish. Give me anything with salmon and I’ll polish it off in an instant so I really liked the Black Pepper Crusted Salmon with lemon herb butter. The Burmese Khaw Suey is a meal in itself with noodles, coconut curry, egg and chicken. If you want to go for something light, filling and delicious, this should be your choice. Like I mentioned earlier, the dessert section of the JW Kitchen buffet is incredible and they have around 20-25 options to choose from. If you want something extra special though, try the Berry Classico from the a la carte menu. This one is not for the chocoholics but if you love a dessert with different flavors and textures that blend beautifully into one another, try it out. Plus, it looks so pretty!
In the buffet, there are so many options that it is practically impossible to try everything in a single meal. I’ve had the buffet four times now and these are my absolute favorites – the cold station and the antipasti bar serving cold cuts, mezze and an excellent selection of international cheese, the make your own prawn cocktail section and the salads, the chaat corner, the dhokla and thepla at the Farsan counter, the kebab section and of course, the desserts where you get a selection of Indian and western sweets, cakes and also pancakes, waffles and ice cream. One day, I’m just gonna go and gorge on the desserts and nothing else!!
