When I went to Mumbai late October to attend the Pond’s event, I was told by the Lakme team about a new launch from the brand that they were all very excited about. I didn’t get too many details except for the fact that it would be the Lakme’s first lip and cheek color. Mention lip color to me and my interest level immediately shoots up so I was definitely curious to know what’s coming. One week later, I got the deets. They were talking about the new Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color. I was sent three shades to try out – Blush Velvet, Burgundy Lush and Pink Plush. Read on to know more…
About Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color
The Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color is the brand’s first ever lip and cheek product in a light weight liquid mousse texture that comes in 10 intense and vibrant shades. It is easy to use, easily blends, and has a great colour payoff. All the shades leave a beautiful dewy tint on the cheeks and gives the lips an opaque matte finish that won’t budge throughout the day. Use the soft applicator tip for speedy application and for creating a defined look without looking ‘over done’.
Price – Rs 575
The packaging of the product is sleek so it slips into the smallest clutches and purses. It does not look too fancy but I like the combination of the peach and rose gold. It includes a leaf shaped applicator with a well in the center to hold the product. The pointed tip of the applicator helps to reach all corners of the lips so you get a precise application. The well ensures that it holds enough product for one application and you don’t have to keep dipping into the tube. I would have preferred if the caps matched with the color of the product to make it easier for us to get the shade we want in a jiffy.
The shades that I have are intensely pigmented so one swipe on the lips gives an opaque coverage. Since the pigmentation is so good, you need to be careful while applying to the cheeks. Start off with a tiny bit and then see if you need more. Don’t apply too much at one go else you will be left with clown cheeks. The colors set pretty fast so make sure you blend properly.
Lakme describes it as a weightless formula and it truly is weightless. You don’t feel as if there is anything on the lips. They set to a matte finish and on me, the shades last for about 5-6 hours with some fading on the inner rim of the lips after 3-4 hours. On the cheeks, the color stays for about 4-5 hours. Since they are matte, they do dry out the lips but some lip balm before application should solve that problem. They are not as drying as the Colourpop Ultra Mattes!
Blush Velvet is a beautiful dusty rose that will work very well on lighter skin tones. On my lips, I feel it washes me out slightly but on the cheeks, it is a great color for office or daily wear. It gives a hint of color but nothing that is too loud.
Pink Plush is a bright coral and a perfect summer shade. Again, more suited towards lighter skin tones but it does not look too bad on me. This has insane pigmentation so you need to be a bit careful while applying on the cheeks.
Burgundy Lush is my favorite! This color will look good on anyone and especially during this season. It is a deep, warm-toned reddish burgundy and while it may seem too loud for the cheeks, it actually looks beautiful if blended well.
A wonderful light texture, great pigmentation and most importantly, does not come with a crazy price tag! The Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color range is a winner for me and I’m definitely getting a few more shades.
