The thought of going in for Laser Hair Reduction on my face has been on my mind for a very long time. Freedom from threading and waxing was definitely the motivational factor but on the other hand, there always a niggling feeling that what if something goes wrong? What if the laser burns my skin, what if there are scars that I have to live with for the rest of my life or what if it does not really work and all my money goes down the drain? When Kaya Skin Clinic approached me to try out some sessions of Laser Hair Reduction, these questions were playing on my mind but they assured me that everything would be just fine and since I’ve been going to Kaya for nearly five years now and trust them, I said yes.
Deciding which area to go for was another challenge. The upper lip came into mind instantly but then I thought going for laser would mean no hair removal at all till the entire treatment is over and going by the rate my hair grows, I did not want to go around being a moustache lady for nearly 4 months. At the end, I decided to go in for the side locks, a relatively safe area and also an area where I have a lot of fine hair.
I took the session at Kaya Skin Clinic, City Centre 1 outlet in Kolkata and I was met by the in house dermatologist who first assessed my skin and recommended the frequency of laser. It depends on how coarse or fine the hair is. If you have very coarse hair, frequency will be high and if you have fine hair, obviously it will be low.
My therapist for the day was Bala and she started off my explaining to me the steps in the entire process. She asked me which area I wanted to go for and then marked the areas with a white crayon. And then she took a razor and shaved off the hair from the areas to start off on a clean base. Bala explained that if the skin is dry then the laser might hurt so she applied some moisturizer and let it sink into the skin for a couple of minutes. Next, she applied a thick layer of Kaya Cooling Gel to prepare the skin. Cotton pads were placed on my eyes and then she started off with the laser gun. One of the first questions I asked Bala was “Would it hurt’ and she said it would not. It would just feel as if a few pins are pricking the skin. And that is exactly how it felt. No pain plus it lasted for only about 8-10 minutes. I thought it would take much longer but 4-5 minutes on each side and I was done. After the session, Bala applied ice and moisturizer to the face and told me not to use face wash or any makeup that day but only wash face with cold water.
In terms of after care for laser hair reduction, I have been asked to not wax, pluck or bleach the hair on the concerned areas in between treatments. Usually there is a gap of about a month from the 1st and 2nd session so I have been asked to come back mid-May for the next one. It takes 6-7 sessions for each treatment and the gap in between sessions increases subsequently. I will share my experience after each session with all of you so wait for my next post in May. Thank you Kaya for the experience ๐
P.Sย – I have been offered complimentary sessions of Laser Hair Reduction by Kaya Skin Clinic.ย
