In the heart of the very busy Salt Lake Sector V office area lies a charming cafe, the second outlet of the very popular Paris Cafe. I was in the mood to try out a new place for lunch and was checking out the Salt Lake area restaurant listings on Askme.com. That was when the name Paris Cafe struck and immediately we friends decided to try it out.
Paris Cafe is located near ‘College More’ and on the ground floor of South City Pinnacle building. The first thought that came to my mind when I saw the place was “Oh it’s so pretty” and it really has a very Parisian cafe like feel. There are glass chandeliers, beautiful mirrors, bird cages hanging from the ceiling, rattan chairs and pretty decorations. Plus, the restaurant is quite spacious so you get some breathing space. In terms of food, they serve Italian, Continental and Bakery items. They also have a wide variety of teas, coffees and beverages.
I was recommended the Garlic Fries and that’s what I ordered first. They were perfectly crunchy, well-fried and I loved the addition of the spicy garlic ‘masala’. The fries were accompanied with a chili tomato and tartar sauce. Along with the fries, we also went in for a plate of cheese balls that had a very ‘healthy’ portion of cheese. These two dishes I would totally recommend you to try out.
For the main course, I had the Paris Cafe favorite, Mushroom Crepe. Even though the dish is vegetarian, you can request for the addition of chicken and that’s what I did. If you are a fan of cheese, you will love this dish. There is cheese oozing out from practically all sides. The crepe was however slightly sweet, something unexpected in a savory crepe but somehow I liked the sweetness. The combination of the chicken, mushroom and cheese made for quite a filling meal. Paris Cafe has a number of options for the main course. If you are a vegetarian, you can try out the Tetrazinni, Red Thai Curry, Canneloni, Baked Potato with Spicy Mexican Rice or a variety of pastas. For non-vegetarians, there are steaks, pastas, baked fish, Chicken Stroganoff etc.
A visit to Paris Cafe is incomplete without trying out their famous desserts. I was told that the Banana Nutella Crepe is an absolute favourite! The other must-orders are its rainbow cake, chocolate éclairs, red velvet cheesecake and macarons. I however wanted something really chocolatey and decided to go in for the Chocolate Truffle Cake. And it was heavenly! They have a choice of cakes and pastries displayed right in the restaurant and you can choose which one you want to go for. The next time, I’m definitely going to try the famous rainbow cake.
Overall, I was very pleased with Paris Cafe. They give good portions, the price is reasonable enough and it is a great place to drop in either for breakfast or for just a cup of coffee or a full fledged meal. Sector V does not have good quality restaurants serving Continental food and I’m glad Paris Cafe has filled up that void. I hope they expand their menu and bring in some new dishes very soon.
