Rejoice Kolkata because Restaurant Week is here for the first time and it will be on till 20th September! What is Restaurant Week you ask?
The 1st edition of the Restaurant Week in Kolkata, gives food lovers the opportunity of experiencing a three course set meal in a fine dining restaurant, with an option of vegetarian or non-vegetarian meal preference at a set price [INR 900 plus taxes] per person for one week for lunch and dinner. Bookings for this have to be made online at www.restaurantweekindia.com. The participating restaurants are:

I was invited by Serafina to try out their Restaurant Week menu and as usual, loved the food. Serafina is one of my favorite places to go to for a good meal in Kolkata. I love the ambience, the very warm and welcoming staff, the incredible food prepared by chef Sarkar and of course that killer Tiramisu. For Restaurant Week, they have put together all their best sellers into one menu so you can choose from their best appetizers, main courses and desserts.
I started off my meal with the special Serafina Chicken Salad – grilled chicken breast with pine nuts, raisins, sun dried tomatoes in a pesto dressing. This salad I’ve had a number of times and I specially love the addition of raisins and pine nuts which give it a unique flavor. The salad is pretty much a meal in itself but I obviously had to keep space for the main course and the tiramisu!
For the main course, I was recommended the new addition to the Serafina menu, Grilled Belgium Pork Chops served with spicy orange jus. The name was enough to induce fresh hunger pangs and I immediately said yes. The char grilled pork was served with vegetables, mashed potato and an aubergine caviar. If the server did not tell me, I would have never realized that I was eating aubergine! For meat lovers, this dish is pure bliss! The meat was cooked perfectly and the orange jus added the right balance of sweetness.
Dessert was of course an obvious choice. I had three options to choose from – Tiramisu, Pannacotta and Chocolate Mousse and I went back to the good old Tiramisu. A large plateau of a pastry, the tiramisu was a gratifying combination of coffee-soaked sponge and oozing thick, sweet cream. Undeniably, the best in Kolkata!
