Nowadays, I find myself leaning more towards natural, organic and ayurvedic products for skin and hair care. We all know about the ill-effects of parabens and SLEs so I am trying to avoid them as much as I can. Recently, I was sent some products from the newly launched Ayurveda brand from Shesha Beauty, Ashtapathy, which has a range of coconut oil based shampoos and soaps.
About Shesha Beauty Ashtapathy Range

Shesha Beauty Ashtapathy Soaps
There are three variants of the soaps – Olive, Mud and Deva Thali.
Deva Thali Leaf Soap (Rs 70/100 gm) – This is a refreshing herbal soap with the nourishing goodness of betel leaves.Other than effectively removing impurities from hair, it maintains and balances hair moisture. Also a natural cleanser that removes dandruff and treats split ends and makes hair shiny and healthy. The Leaf soap looks after skin too. Moisturizing, whilst keeping skin smooth and clear.
This is an all-purpose soap that can be used on the skin and hair. I mostly use it on my skin though to be honest. It has a very herbal fragrance that can take some time to get used to. Works really well to get rid of dirt and grime and the good thing is that it does not dry out the skin.
Olive Soap (Rs 70/100 gm) – Olive Oil, the beauty secret of beautiful women across the globe. It is one of the most natural ways to rejuvenate skin health. The soap is enriched with Olive and Coconut milk for smooth skin.Removing dryness, it keeps the skin radiant through out the day.
This soap is my favorite and perfect for those with dry skin. It smells really nice and I use it both on my body and also on my face. Again, gets rid of all the dirt and after cleansing, the skin feels clean and refreshed.
Mud Soap (Rs 70/100 gm) – For centuries, “Multani Mitti” or “Fuller’s Earth” has been trusted for skincare. It is a natural cleansing agent that absorbs and removes toxins from the body. This Mud Soap tackles excess oil, acne, blocked pores and hyper pigmentation resulting in brighter and more glowing skin.
This soap is meant for oily and acne-prone skin. Multani Mitti is the primary ingredient so it is drying and hence not really for me. I have used it couple of days to test and I can say that this leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean. Will test it again when I feel a pimple appearing on my face.
Shesha Beauty Ashtapathy Shampoos
Deva Thali Shampoo (Rs 125/100 ml) – The Ashtapathy Devathali Shampoo is a gentle herbal cleanser enriched with the natural goodness of Hibiscus, Shikakai and Henna. Adding volume to your hair, it effectively tackles problems like premature greying, split ends, dandruff, dryness and hair damage. It is an excellent conditioner that protects hair from daily damage.
This is a great shampoo! Again, the herbal fragrance takes a bit of time to get used to but the shampoo is very effective. It cleans the scalp and also gives volume to the hair. I’ve also used this shampoo after oiling my hair and it is great to remove the oil. Best thing is that this shampoo does not dry out my hair and I feel that it generally makes my hair look a lot healthier.
Mud Shampoo (Rs 125/100 ml) – The Ashtapathy Mud Shampoo is created with the tried and tested goodness of Multani Mitti making it a natural cleanser that strengthens hair and enhances growth bringing about a natural shine with luster. It tackles and removes excessive oil and toxins from the scalp.
This is not for me. I’ve used it once and it made my scalp and hair so dry. Best suited for those with an oily scalp and hair prone to dandruff.
Overall Thoughts
After years of using ‘regular’ products, it takes a bit of time to get used to these natural products. We may feel that these don’t deliver results instantly but the ingredients have been used for centuries and I think it is about time we get back to our roots. Atleast that is my opinion.
It is great that Shesha Beauty is trying to advocate a more natural way of life and I support the initiative. Their products are inexpensive and they work!
