Sugar Cosmetics, a relatively new makeup brand started off with a Kajal and an Eyeliner (which I’ve reviewed so do click on the link to read the post). Their latest launch is a range of matte lip crayons in four shades – Scarlett O’ Hara (classic red), Mary Poppins (fuchsia), Poison Ivy (wine) and Holly Golightly (nude). I love the names but do I love the lip crayon as well? Read on!

I received the shade Poison Ivy from Sugar Cosmetics to try out and it is a beautiful dark wine color, perfect for this season. I like the packaging of their products specially the outer cover. That graphic design is quite cool. The pencil itself is simple to look at it. A chubby crayon which unfortunately is not retractable so you need to use a sharpener. Not smart Sugar Cosmetics. When we pay Rs 799, any wastage hurts!
The crayon is creamy and glides on the lips. Some lip crayons have a waxy feel to them which I don’t like at all. This one thankfully feels like a lipstick. Pigmentation is good and it goes opaque in a couple of swipes. On the lips, it gives a powder matte finish and does not dry out the lips. The color stays for around 4-5 hours. While there are quite a few pros of Poison Ivy, the con is that after a few hours, it starts to crumble on the lips specially around the outer edges. I’ve read a few reviews of this shade and everyone pretty much said the same thing. The rest of the colors apparently don’t have this problem. It is a shame because Poison Ivy is such a pretty color!
At Rs 799, I find it a bit more expensive and I would have liked the price range to be within Rs 650. In terms of formula, Poison Ivy is a mixed bag. I have listed the pros and the cons. Upto you now to decide if you want to go for this particular shade! I can only say that any lipstick that crumbles on my lips will not be in my list of favorites!
Have you tried any of the Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Lip Crayons?
