There is reason to rejoice folks. Happy Hours or rather Boho Hours have started at Bohemian, my favorite Bengali fusion/contemporary cuisine restaurant and it is quite spectacular. Boho Hours is from 4 pm -7 pm daily and during this time, you can get cocktails and other drinks at a reduced price. To go with the drinks, owner-chef Joymalya Banerjee has also created a special menu of light bites that have the signature Bohemian fusion touch.
I was invited for a tasting session of the new menu last week and here’s what I loved from the cocktail menu.
- Made in Heaven – made for the chocoholics. A delightful combination of whiskey, dark chocolate and vanilla
- The Bengal Daab Sangria – a Bengali take on the traditional sangria. This one has tender coconut, seasonal fruits and herbs steeped in white wine.
- The Kolkata Afternoon – Perfect summer drink. Zesty lemony cocktail made with preserved lemon and Bacardi white rum. Finished with a hint of chilli
And for the adventurous, there is The Kolkata Biryani. Chef calls it his quirkiest cocktail ever and it has vodka, juices, secret spices and flavourings, served with the quintessential biryani potatoes!
From the finger food menu, I loved the Cottage Cheese and Burnt Tomato Mousse on Papri, the veg version of liver pate perhaps. If I was not informed earlier that this was cottage cheese, I could have never guessed!
If you love pork, definitely try the Nolen Gur Glazed Pork Belly on Papri. The slightly sweet pork on the crunchy papri made for a very interesting bite.
Other favorites were the Cream Cheese and Pickled Chilli Wraps, Steamed Chicken Envelopes, Crab n Prawn Phuchka with Spiced Nolen Gur Water and Potato Medallions with Tamarind Chickpeas (a bite-sized version of the street vendor’s aloo tikki and chole).
