Ayurveda & Beauty – A talk by Dr. V R Vivekanand, courtesy Kama Ayurveda & YFLO
Me to a friend a month back – ” What’s the secret of your lustrous locks T? Have you been using any new hair care product? Plzzz tell me the name. My hair looks so dull nowadays. Even I wanna try it”
Friend to me – “Hey sure. I’m using this new natural hair tonic that’s really working for me. Here’s the name. We have the same hair type so it should work for you too”
Me a month later – “WTH T! This tonic is just not doing anything for me. In fact, I’ve been losing so much hair after I’ve started using it. I just don’t get it. It worked so well for you!”
All of us have had these conversations with our friends. As a beauty blogger, I write product reviews and rave about something but that might not work at all for many of you. And do you know the reason why? The fault does not lie with the product. It lies with us because we tend to forget that we are all different from each other. What works for me might not work for you because my hair, skin, body type, body composition is different than yours. And that’s the basic premise of Ayurveda. To understand that we are different individuals, our bodies are different and that one size does not fit all.
A big thanks to Kama Ayurveda and YFLO for inviting me to the talk on Ayurveda & Beauty by Dr. V. R. Vivekanand, clinical registrar at IAIM Healthcare Center and Senior Assistant Professor, School of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The event was held at the terrace of Quest Mall and Dr. Vivekanand spoke for about 45 mins on the philosophy and science behind Ayurveda, discussed skin related problems and health issues and also answered questions from the guests, including one from me.
L’Oréal Professionnel Indian Hairdressing Awards East Regional Finals
After four successful years of the Colour Trophy, L’Oréal Professionnel has upped the ante by re-christening their mega hairdressing event – the Indian Hairdressing Awards. The Colour Trophy has been the benchmark in hairdressing, raising the standards of creativity and innovation with each passing year, and this year has been no exception! The Indian Hairdressing Awards 2014-15 witnessed exemplary talent and outstanding creativity that will inspire new trends in the hairdressing industry.
In August this year, hairdressers across the country were invited by L’Oréal Professionnel to send in their entries – photographs of the looks they created – in a category of their choice. The categories included Colour Trophy, Cut & Style, Men’s Image and Young Colourist. “We received more than 1000 entries this year! It is overwhelming to see the number of entries multiply with each edition of the IHA and the quality keeps getting better and better.” said Sussan Verghese GM Marketing, L’Oréal Professionnel.
The live competitions kick-started in the SOUTH, followed by the WEST regionals and then the EAST regional rounds in Kolkata, where the audience witnessed quite a spectacular show. Entries were received from all over the east region from Kolkata, Mizoram, Cuttack, Jamshedpur etc. The 34 Regional Finalists at the EAST event worked hard to recreate their looks on the morning of the event for a panel of judges which included a mix of experts from the fashion and beauty industry. The judges included photographer Somnath Roy, makeup artist Stafford Braganza and fashion director Ekta Rajani.
Burberry Store Launch at Quest Mall, Kolkata
Slowly and steadily luxury brands are making their way to the City of Joy and the latest to open a store here is Burberry. Last week, I was invited by the brand to attend the official launch party hosted by Madhu Neotia at the Quest Mall store and I had a great time. The previous day at the Villeroy & Boch event, me and fellow bloggers Shayoni and Pooja were having a very serious conversation about what we should wear. The crème de la crème of Kolkata were supposed to attend so naturally it was quite a valid point to discuss. At one time, I thought of wearing a saree but decided against it and wore a dress from AND. The dress was beige so I kept the makeup quite subtle. Went for dewy face, brown on the eyes and bright red on the lips. And if it is bright red, it has to be Ruby Woo!
Destination France – An Atout France Interactive Session + Glimpses of my France Trip
Some days back , I was invited to participate in an interactive session on France at the Park Hotel with a few fellow Kolkata bloggers. The event was attended by Fabrice Etienne, the Consul General of France in Kolkata and Catherine Oden, Director Atout France – France Tourism Development Agency.
France has always been a traveler ‘s dream destination and the session was aimed at making people more aware of the places to visit, the various kinds of activities one can indulge in and share information about visa processing and other important details. Do you know that it now takes only 48 hours to get your visa approved and that you no longer need to submit details of your hotel bookings and vouchers for a visa? The bio metric screening has also been put on hold for some time and the embassy is looking at more opportunities to make the visa process a smooth and simple one for travelers.
