For some, comfort food can be a plate of ‘khichdi’ with ‘ilish maach bhaja’. For some, it can be a bowl of steaming hot maggi, cheese toast or even a simple meal of plain rice with butter and mashed potatoes. And for some, comfort food can be a plate of piping hot paranthas with a dollop of curd and achar. If you fall in the last category, the latest food festival at Durbari, Swissôtel Kolkata Neotia Vista is for you. Till the 25th, Durbari is turning into a mini Paranthewali Gali where 17 different types of vegetarian and non-vegetarian paranthas will be on offer.
Monkey Bar Opens in Kolkata – First Look
Braving the heavy rains and waterlogged Camac Street on Monday, I entered the newest gastropub in the city. The monkey they love in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi has swung its way to the 9th Floor of Fort Knox building on Camac Street. Yes, the much awaited Monkey Bar is finally open in Kolkata!
I was invited for a preview of Monkey Bar on Monday before the official opening on the 6th and that was the day when Kolkata received the heaviest rainfall of the season. Uber and Ola went crazy with their surge pricing and it was tough to figure out if we were in Venice or Kolkata. That did not deter us foodies from indulging in some monkey business though. Since we were brave enough to venture outside, we were promised a great time at MoBar (as its popularly called) and boy did they live up to that promise!
Gabbar’s Bar & Kitchen Turns One & Celebrates With A New Menu
Gabbar’s Bar & Kitchen recently turned one and to celebrate, they are out with some new additions to their menu. Out of all the restaurants that do molecular gastronomy in Kolkata, I find Gabbar’s to be the most innovative. Here, the humble Papdi Chaat gets a makeover with liquid nitrogen, the Khichdi gets an Italian twist, the Khowsuey condiments come in a Ferris Wheel and the Paan is served with a filling of gulkand flavored mousse!
A Taste of Japan in Kolkata At Fuji
I must admit that my knowledge about Japanese food is quite limited. The only dishes I’ve tried till date are Sushi and Sashimi so when the first Japanese restaurant opened in Kolkata, I was very eager to go and explore more of the cuisine. Fuji is located at 209A Sarat Bose Road and they have an extensive menu with authentic Japanese dishes with reasonable prices compared to the very large portions they serve. The menu is presented by course—appetizers, soups, salads, sashimi/sushi and mains.
