“So are you going to SpiceKlub on Thursday? Been a long time since I’ve met you and I’m really looking forward” The response was “You going to a pure vegetarian restaurant? Wow! Your wonders never cease to amaze me” This is an excerpt from a conversation I was having with Shikha a.k.a Sorelle Grapevine after we were invited to lunch at SpiceKlub, the latest restaurant in Park Street specializing in molecular gastronomy and pure vegetarian food. If you know me well, you will not find Shikha’s reaction surprising because I pretty much never go to a restaurant to eat a pure vegetarian meal. Why did I agree to go to SpiceKlub? Because 1) I’ve heard good things about the food and read reviews praising it 2) I saw the IG stories of a couple of bloggers who went before me and what they posted looked really delicious. To find out if the restaurant is as good as people claim it to be, I decided to go and try it out myself.
A Coastal Culinary Adventure At The Coastal Macha
Want to go on a coast to coast ride with some regional fare from Kerala, Goa, Karnataka and parts of Maharashtra? Drop in to The Coastal Macha at 55, Southern Avenue (next to Atlanta gym). The restaurant is the brainchild of Sabrina Mukherjee and Piyush Menon, friends who spent many years in Bangalore and who wanted to give Kolkata a taste of authentic coastal cuisine.
In Kolkata, it is tough to get good coastal food. Some of the hotels come up with special promotional events once in a while but there was no restaurant solely dedicated to it. And that is why I’m so thankful for The Coastal Macha. Now, I can get my fix of Sol Kadhi, Chicken Ghee Roast, Prawn and Mutton Sukka anytime I want to!
Lunch With Karen Anand & The Farmer’s Market At Taj Bengal
The ‘Martha Stewart of India’, a writer, a food critic, an anchor, a chef, a businesswoman, a consultant, a ‘food guru’ who has been influencing the way people eat and perceive good food for nearly 25 years, Karen Anand is an institution in herself. She is an inspiration to many in the food and wine business and it was my pleasure to have spent a wonderful afternoon with her at The Taj Bengal recently, courtesy the Pikturenama duo, Anindya and Madhushree. Karen was in the city for the Kolkata edition of her Farmers’ Market and she hosted a Bloggers Table for some of us at The Hub, Taj Bengal. The main topic of conversation? Of course, food! 😀
New Menu At Alla Bella Mozzarella, Kolkata
One of my favorite places to eat Italian food in Kolkata, Alla Bella Mozzarella now has a new menu. I was invited to a blogger’s meet by the restaurant on a lazy Sunday afternoon to try out the new dishes and I was floored! Old favorites like Roasted Bell Pepper Soup, Caesar Salad, Spaghetti di prawn aglio and the beautiful Wood-fired Chocolate fondant continue to be part of the menu but I may have found some new favorites.
