After launching a makeup line last month, The Body Shop is back with a number of new skin care products. Amongst them are the Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask, British Rose Petal-Soft Gel Toner, Chinese Ginseng & Rice Toner and Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Powder. Out of the four, I have three products sent to me by the brand and I’ve been trying them out every day for the last 1.5 weeks. Here are my initial thoughts on these new launches.
The Body Shop New Launches
Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask
“Enriched with matcha green tea from Kakegawa, Japan, dandelion extract and soul-soothing Community Trade aloe vera from Mexico, our indulgently creamy, 100% vegan masking formula deeply purifies, gently exfoliates and liberates your skin from the weekly build-up of city pollutants and everyday impurities.”
Price – Rs 1,895 / 75 ml
The Japanese Matcha Tea Pollution Clearing Mask is the latest addition to the Superfood face mask range. It is mint green in colour with a strange yet refreshing earthy/grassy smell. The texture of the mask is creamy and it includes tiny particles of luffa fruit and apricot seed powder that act as exfoliants.
Usually, face masks that claim to purify and exfoliate tend to be quite drying on the skin because of the presence of clay. The Japanese Matcha Mask contains clay as well but it also contains Olive Oil, Shea Butter and other emollients and therefore is not at all drying and suitable for those with dry skin. Because of its creamy texture, the mask can be applied with fingers and you only need to keep it on for about 10 minutes. Initially, there is a slight tingling sensation possibly because of the presence of menthol but that subsides soon after. You don’t have to wait till the mask dries up completely. After 10 minutes, add a bit of water, gently exfoliate and wash it off.
How does it fare on the skin? I really like the creamy texture and the fact that it does not leave any oily residue on the skin after washing off. My skin feels hydrated, refreshed, clean and bright. For summer, this is a good option to try out in face masks.
The Body Shop British Rose Petal-Soft Gel Toner
“Enriched with real rose petals and organic Community Trade aloe vera from Mexico, our extra-gentle, alcohol-free formula leaves skin feeling soft, soothed and replenished.”
Price – Rs 1,695 / 250 ml
I love this toner! In fact, I love all products in the British Rose range but this toner is quite special. It promises to re-plump the skin with moisture, and leave it feeling soft, soothed and replenished. And it does exactly that.
The packaging is simple, but attractive. It is a flip top bottle with a small opening which makes it easy to control how much product is released. It is a slightly thick gel formula and I really like that the toner has small pieces of rose petals inside. The usage is the same as any toner. After washing your face, add some onto a cotton pad and wipe it over your face and neck. Sometimes, I even apply it straight on my face, more like an essence. And it works equally well.
This toner feels lovely on the skin and gives instant hydration. It has made my face feel smoother – helping with the dry patches that I tend to get on my cheeks and around the nose. I also really love the mild rose scent and every time I use it, it feels like such a treat. The product does not contain alcohol so it does not leave the face feeling dry and tight like some other toners.
The Body Shop Chinese Ginseng & Rice Clarifying Polishing Powder Wash
“Enriched with Chinese rice and ginseng extract and organic Community Trade sesame seed oil from Nicaragua, simply mix this gently cleansing powder with water to customise its exfoliating power, leaving skin feeling instantly smoother and with a more even, illuminated complexion”.
Price – Rs 1,295 / 33 gm
Powder face washes are very popular in Korean skincare and I’m glad that The Body Shop has also caught on to that trend. The Chinese Ginseng & Rice Powder Wash contains papaya enzymes, salicyclic acid, antioxidants and allantoin as the primary ingredients. And all of these are very good for the skin.
The usage of the product is quite simple. Add a bit of water to the powder, make a paste, apply it on the face, scrub and wash off. And you get cleaner, brighter skin in an instant.
I just wish the product was priced better. It is effective but for 33 gms, Rs 1,295 is quite high.
The Body Shop constantly comes out with products that are good for the skin and most importantly, deliver. I’d totally recommend these new launches.
