Guess who is celebrating her 20th birthday this year? Our beloved skin rescuer, The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil. This little bottle of goodness has been a Body Shop best-seller for years and apparently one bottle is sold every eight seconds globally!
I’ve been using the product for around five years now and even though I don’t have oily or pimple prone skin, I always keep a bottle at home for any emergency situation. The oil comes in a tiny dark green glass bottle and contains 10 ml of product. You need to press the plastic cap down and then twist it to unlock and open. Bear this in mind and don’t keep on twisting the cap :).
The oil is a light green liquid and has a watery texture. The smell of tea tree is quite strong but it settles down very soon. It might also sting a bit so don’t get scared and don’t apply too much. What I like best about this oil is that you can use it directly on your skin. No need to dilute or mix with any other carrier oil. Just one drop on a q-tip/cotton swab, dab it on the rogue pimple and leave it on. The oil gets absorbed easily and does not dry out skin.
Whenever I feel that a pimple is about to make an appearance, I start applying the oil on the area 2-3 times a day. The oil helps to reduce inflammation, redness and prevents the pimple from growing to a monstrous size. In about 3 days, you will see it clearing up. If the pimple is already filled with pus though, the oil is not that effective. It takes more time to dry up so start applying from the initial stage itself. The oil does not really work that well on removing blemishes but does a stellar job in getting rid of pimples.
If you have severe acne, I would recommend you to use this oil along with other products from The Body Shop’s Tea Tree range specially the face wash, toner and the face pack. Together, they are really a team of super heroes fighting against problematic skin.
The regular 10 ml tea tree oil is priced at Rs 695. To celebrate the 20th anniversary, The Body Shop has released a 20 ml limited edition super-sized bottle priced at Rs 1,195. You can buy it on their website.
