Kolkata’s favorite pub, The Irish House has revamped their menu coming out with plenty of new drinks and grub to feast on. Some of their old favorites still remain but most of the menu is new and I must add very good!
You can now get plenty of options in appetizers, drinks (both cocktail and mocktail), main course and desserts. The day we were invited to The Irish House to sample the new menu, the array of food in front of us was mind-boggling. Pub grub tends to lean more towards non-vegetarian stuff but if you are a vegetarian, don’t worry coz there is a lot of food for you as well!
It was a weekday so I could not taste any of the cocktails but I did try all the new mocktails and loved the Green Appletini, Strawberry Mango Blitz and the Peanut Butter and Chocolate drink. For the alcohol lovers, I heard good things about the Whistleblower – single malt whiskey, blended whiskey, raspberry juice and passion fruit extract mixed together, Red Army – Jägermeister, blended whiskey and cranberry juice,Irish Tea Party, Seven Island Iced Tea and Green Goblet, an interesting green drink that has smoke coming out of it!
I’m not going into details of all the new dishes I tried but I can surely let you know my favorites. In the appetizers, I loved the Sweet Potato Fries with Dips, Angry Birds – spicy chicken shreds mixed with smoked hot sauce and melted cheese, served in a bowl covered with a fried egg, the Hummus Platter with two flavors of hummus and an assortment of falafel, gherkins, mini pita breads, carrot crudités and fresh salad, the Headless Chicken Platter – an assortment of chicken popcorn, glazed wings, original Belfast wings and chicken tenders, and The Melting Pot – a three cheese fondue mixed with your choice of beer or jalapenos and served with accompaniments.
They have also come out with some delicious burgers and I loved the Double Chicken Ghost Crunch burger. Unfortunately, I had to leave early so could not taste any of the desserts but the Topsy Turvy Apple Cinnamon Cake is supposed to be very good. The cocktails are priced around Rs 550-650, the appetizers around Rs 300-700 and the burgers are in the Rs 350-400 range.
