If you have been reading my blog regularly, you will know how much I love red lipstick. I have tried a lot of brands with a lot of good red shades but in the end, I always come back to MAC. Two reasons for that – their vast range of reds in different finishes and the fact that almost all of them work very well on the Indian skin tone. I have around 16-17 shades of red lipstick from MAC but since some of them are limited edition, I’ve not included them in this list. This one is exclusive to the reds that are part of the permanent range (except one). Here are my 10 Best MAC Red Lipsticks for the Indian skin tone!
MAC Ruby Woo – This obviously has to be no 1 on the list. Ruby Woo is by far one of the best colors by MAC and this vivid matte blue-red looks good on everyone. This shade also happens to be Mickey Contractor’s favorite red lipstick!
MAC RiRi Woo – RiRi Woo is inspired by Ruby Woo to such an extent that there is hardly any difference between the two. This one has a retro matte finish so it is drier and stiff and can be quite uncomfortable after a few hours. This formula also means that the color stays on and on. RiRi Woo is a limited edition but I added it to the list because I absolutely love it! On me, it is slightly more intense than Ruby Woo and I am quite fond of the retro matte formula.
MAC Russian Red – Another MAC classic after Ruby Woo. Can you believe that this color was launched in the 80s and it still is a bestseller! Russian Red is not as bright as Ruby Woo but is equally beautiful.
MAC Viva Glam 1 – Described as an intense brownish blue red, this color suits the Indian skin tone to the T. If you are wary of bright reds, go for Viva Glam 1. You simply cannot go wrong with this shade.
MAC Chili – Chili is a red with a bit of brown and orange in it. This shade does not get as much hype as the rest of the reds but it is a beautiful color on warm skin tones.
MAC Diva – Everytime I put on this lipstick, I get at least 4-5 people asking me what shade it is. Diva is darker than Viva Glam 1 and is a warm-toned burgundy red. Always been curious about the dark red shade that Rekha wears? It is said to be Diva!
MAC Lady Danger – From bright and vampy reds, let us now move to an orangey-red. Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and a host of other celebrities across the world are big fans of Lady Danger. On lighter skin tones, it looks stunning but on medium to dark skin tones, this shade can be kinda tricky to pull off because it is a very bright orange. If you are not accustomed to wearing bright shades, this can be a bit too much. For a slightly toned down version, you can try Dangerous from the Retro Matte range. I absolutely love Lady Danger though.
MAC New York Apple – If it wasn’t for the Pixiwoo sisters, I would have totally ignored this shade. Frost finishes are something that I run away from but after watching one of Nic’s videos where she applied New York Apple and looked gorgeous, I just had to check out the shade for myself. I did, I fell in love and wondered how on earth could I not have noticed this earlier. And since metallic lips and frost finishes are making a comeback, do go and check New York Apple out!
MAC Relentlessly Red – And a pink toned red makes an appearance! Relentlessly Red is more pink than red but it still is part of the red family. It is a Retro Matte so like RiRi Woo, quite drying but the color is beautiful and it just brightens up the face. Another shade that is very close to Relentlessly Red is All Fired Up, also a Retro Matte.
MAC Dance With Me – Dance With Me is a recent launch and it is from the Retro Matte liquid lipstick range. It is a gorgeous true red that will look beautiful on anyone. Again, because of the formula, this will dry out your lips.
That was my list of the Best MAC Red Lipsticks. Which one out of these is my favorite? I have three actually – Viva Glam 1, Ruby Woo and Diva.
