MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick Dark Side – Review, Photos & Swatch
There was a time when I used to steer clear of any burgundy or maroon shades of lipstick coz I thought they were ‘mom’ colors. But now, they have become my latest obsession (signs of getting older??).. The only shades that I’m drawn towards nowadays are either deep plums, maroons/burgundy and dark brownish reds (or now as its fashionable to say – Oxblood). Blame it on the season or on advancing age but pinks have definitely taken a backseat for me now. Watch out for reviews of a lot more lippies in deeper, darker colors till this obsession lasts.
The lipstick that I’m showcasing today is a gorgeous burgundy/purple toned red from MAC with an amplified finish. I’m not going into details about packaging because its the usual bullet shape with the trademark vanilla fragrance. Amplified finishes are my favorite because they are creamy, intensely pigmented, completely opaque, goes on smoothly and there’s a nice sheen to the finish which prevents the lipstick from looking very dry on the lips. Since its so pigmented, the lipstick lasts for around 5 hrs on my lips and leaves a subtle berry stain on fading away.
Dark Side is definitely a dark color. Very vampy, bold and perfect for the winter season. Even though it looks very dark in the tube, the shade is quite wearable and will look good on all skin tones. But those of you who are wary, try it out at the store first. I would however recommend this shade to everyone. If you are afraid of sporting a dark bold lip, a trick is to dab the color on your lips with your fingers and blending with a gloss. That way, you can get a more subtle look.
My lips are chapped so not showing lip swatches but here’s a look at the color..
What’s your favorite dark lipstick for the winter?
MAC Mattene Lipstick Camden Chic – Review, Swatch, Photos
The Styleseeker collection from MAC was one I was really looking forward to simply coz the colors of the lipsticks, lipglasses and blushes are so gorgeous and most of them are perfect for the Indian skin tone. And the lipstick that I was eyeing was the shade Camden Chic, a beautiful rich brick red. Its priced at Rs 990.
I had bought a mattene lipstick from MAC about 3-4 yrs back and loved the texture and finish. According to MAC, “With its streamlined design, this new slimline lipcolour, features the traditional glamour properties of a matte lipstick – intense colour and semi-matte velvety finish – while offering a creamier, softer, more glide-on application. Non-caking, non drying. Moisturizing and incredibly wearable yet absolutely matte.”
Packaging
Mattene lipsticks are a skinnier version of the usual lipsticks, contain slightly less product (2.3g vs 3g) and have a non-traditional shape. The cover is a matte rubber case and inside the lipstick has a flat, angled edge for precise application. Even though the rubber case looks very stylish, its not something I like very much. Based on prior experience, I can tell you that it will attract dirt and grime like anything. The rubber also tends to get sticky after sometime so make sure you clean this regularly.
Smell
Vanilla, as with all MAC lipsticks.
Color
MAC describes the color as a “rich brick red” and I completely agree. Its a color that instantly brightens up the face and is perfect for all skin tones, specially those who are between NC 40-45.
Texture
Creamy, glides on smoothly and gives an opaque coverage in one swipe. The semi-matte finish does not dry out lips and there is a slight sheen on application. I like this formula much better than the mattes and wish that MAC adds them on to the permanent range.
Performance
Camden Chic lasts on me for about 5 hrs after which it fades away leaving a light red tint on the lips. I love that it keeps my lips hydrated and does not feel cakey or dry.
Overall Thoughts
Camden Chic is a heavily pigmented, beautiful brick red that will not just be perfect for Fall/Winter but all year round. It’s long lasting, gives a semi-matte finish and does not dry out lips. Highly recommend this one!

MAC Pressed Pigment Spot Lit – Review & Swatch
You have already seen a preview of the MAC Pressed Pigment Spot Lit here. I’ve been using the product for quite a while now so time for a review.
The Pressed Pigments were launched recently as part of the Limited Edition Face and Body Collection as an “intensely creamy highlighter offering extreme pearlescence and versatility of finish.” It can be “[applied] dry for a high shine, or on damp skin for a dramatic wet look” with “sheer-to-moderate buildable coverage and natural dimension finish.”.
A lot of reviews of these pressed pigments did not speak very highly of them. Christine of Temptalia had absolutely trashed these giving a rating of F! However, I still went ahead and bought Spot Lit for only one reason – The peachy golden metallic color is gorgeous!! Oh yes, and the MUA recommended the color as well.
When I bought the pigment, I was sure that I would only use it as an eyeshadow. Using it as a highlighter on the face is just out of question coz it has way too much glitter and it flies all over the face. No way am I gonna look like a disco ball! Since I knew what I’d be using this for, I can say that I’m pretty pleased with the results. Yes, there is a lot of glitter and there is a considerable amount of fallout but only if it is used on dry lids. I always apply the pigment on top of a creamy base or primer and the finish is wonderful. Currently, I’m loving the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze and that’s what I use as a base for Spot Lit. The glitter is kept in control and the lids look all shimmery and beautiful. The texture of the pressed pigments is quite similar to the L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows. Creamy and moist. When worn over a base, it lasts for about 5-6 hrs.
Final Thoughts
I’m loving Spot Lit as an eyeshadow and would recommend this shade to anyone looking for a peachy golden shimmery eye shadow. However, as a highlighter, I would definitely not recommend the Pressed Pigments. It has way too much of glitter and will only make the face look like a glittery mess!
The Pressed Pigments are priced at Rs 1350 for 3gm.
