Colorbar recently launched a bunch of new products and one of them is the Lip Prime and Care. This is basically a primer for the lips that also works as a lip balm. The other lip primer that I know of is the MAC Prep + Prime Lip and I have read mixed reviews about that product. Some people love it while some say that it does not do anything. I have not tried the MAC one so cannot share my thoughts on it. I’ve tried the Colorbar Lip Prime and Care and that is what this post is all about. What do I think of it? Read on to find out 🙂
About Colorbar Lip Prime and Care
As a primer : This unique, creamy formulation is like Shadow Insurance for your lips. It’s applied over the lips to promote suppleness and glides on smooth for maximum staying power. Your glosses and lip color will not feather or fade, even under the most lip-challenging conditions. The vitamin-E-enriched formula pampers lips while unique pigment binders protect lip colors from any pout imperfections. Can also be applied as lip primer under Kiss proof formulas to make it more smooth and chip resistant
As a Lip Balm: This ultra-hydrating lip treatment corrects and conditions lips for a smooth, youthful-looking finish. It is scientifically proven to nourish and repair the lips—significantly boosting moisture, enhancing volume, and improving the definition of the lip area. It is fortified with a high concentration of ultra-nourishing, age-delaying ingredients including Vit C to penetrate the skin, fill in wrinkles, and plump the appearance of lips.

A primer provides a smooth foundation for the application of a product. Face primers smooths texture, boosts coverage and helps products wear better and last longer. A lip primer does exactly the same thing. It locks down lip color and prevents fading, bleeding, and creasing.
The Colorbar Lip Prime and Care comes in a slim pencil-like packaging. The product is colorless and the texture is similar to a lip balm but gives a more ‘silicone-y’ and waxy feel to the lips. Also, lip balms tend to make the lips glossy but this one settles to a matte finish. If you have very pigmented lips, it might appear slightly grey after applying the product so I would not recommend using it on its own as a lip balm.
Before using the primer, it is good to exfoliate the lips so that the dry bits and the bumps are gone and the primer is able to perform its job better. I have tested this product with cream and semi-matte lipsticks, glosses and liquid lipsticks and apart from lip gloss, it works well on everything else.
Because it provides a smooth base, lip colors do not settle into fine lines and they do not feather or bleed. Also, it helps to lock in the color so it lasts longer. Colorbar claims that the product can also be used as a lip balm but frankly, on its own, I find it a bit drying. I also feel the same when I use it with matte lipsticks. Yes it does add to the wear time but it does make my lips dry.
Overall, this is a handy product to have in your makeup kit especially if you are fond of using creamy lipsticks which tend to go all over the place and dark colors which can be difficult to apply. It will also work with matte lipsticks but it will add to the dryness so be aware of that.
I rarely reapply lipstick so I am constantly looking for lip colors that last pretty much the entire day. The new Colorbar Lip Prime and Care helps me to achieve that so I am quite happy with this product. It does have its cons but it is effective as well.
