The much awaited limited edition MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks launched in India last week (and most probably got sold out that day itself!). I managed to get my hands on two shades – Dance With Me, a deep cranberry red and Oh Lady, a dark purple wine. Read on to know what I think of them.
For those who prefer timeless glamour to all-out flash, matte reigns supreme. M∙A∙C introduces a twist on this classic texture with robustly saturated shades of Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. Whichever shade you choose, all promise one thing: a splash of colour in a liquid-suede finish that is impossible to forget.
Price – Rs 1800
Availability – MAC Stores
The two shades I picked up have excellent pigmentation and gives good coverage. While Dance With Me goes opaque in a single coat, Oh Lady requires two. They have a mousse like texture and dry down to a flat, matte finish. I have read that some of the colors in this range go on streaky and patchy but no problems with these two. Like all matte liquid lipsticks, they are quite drying and you do need to prep your lips beforehand. Once they dry, the lipsticks do not transfer, flake or fade for nearly 6-7 hours (unless you have a really greasy meal). You will need a pretty heavy duty remover to get them off completely!
At Rs 1800, are these lipsticks worth it? I will not say they are a must have. I bought them primarily for the beautiful colors and being a huge fan of liquid matte lipsticks, wanted to see MAC’s version of them. In India, you don’t get a lot of brands who make matte liquid lipsticks so if you want to indulge, it is worth getting atleast one. If you have access to international brands like ColourPop etc , you can skip.
I’m wearing a single swipe of Oh Lady and dance With Me in the pics. Oh Lady looks more purple under artificial light. During the day, you can see more of the wine.
