Whenever we want to go for a team lunch or dinner from office, the choice is unanimous. It is always Barbeque Nation at Sector V. I’ve been going there since the time the restaurant opened up in Kolkata nearly seven years back and I absolutely love the place. People who stay in central or south Kolkata have been complaining that they have to come to Salt Lake to enjoy the food. Good news guys. Barbeque Nation is now open at Park Street and it is much bigger than its Sector V counterpart.
Right at the Camac Street-Park Street junction, the large green signage welcomes you to a spacious seating area on the first floor of the Park Centre Building. The 170-cover restaurant is done up in earthy shades of wood and has a cheerful vibe, thanks to the large glass windows. Open from noon to 4 pm for lunch and 6.30 – 11 pm for dinner, the restaurant offers the same grill and buffet options available at their Sec V outlet. This outlet is much more spaced out and they have separate counters for kulfi, pasta and dessert. They don’t have a liquor license yet so you will only get non-alcoholic drinks as of now.
Barbeque Nation is probably the first restaurant in Kolkata that started the ‘Off the Grill’ and ‘On the Buffet’ eat as much as you want option. And I love them for that. Everytime, I’ve gone to the restaurant, I’ve stuffed myself silly with the kebabs and grills leaving no space for the buffet options. This time, I was determined to try out everything. In the grills, I loved the badami tangri, chilli garlic prawns, mutton gelafi sheekh kabab and the grilled fish. For vegetarians, they have cheese corn balls, grilled mushroom, grilled veg and paneer mirch masala. My favorite has always been the cajun spice potatos. I love the spiciness of the dish combined with the yoghurt based dip. Yum!
The buffet is a huge spread starting from soup, dal makhani, veg biryani, traditional bengali dishes like jhinge posto and begun basanto, paneer lababdar and bharwa bindi. The dal makhani was top notch and I had two servings of it. If you are non-vegetarian, you have to try the melt in your mouth nihari gosht. To me, that was the best dish of the buffet followed by the dal makhani and chicken dum biryani.
No meal is complete without desserts and you will be spoilt for choice at Barbeque Nation. They have brownie, chocolate cake, ice cream, phirnee, fruit tarts, gulab jamun etc. I was however much more attracted towards the kulfi counter. Oh my god, those kulfis were so delicious! If you love chocolate, then the chocolate kulfi is a must have. Topped with chocolate sauce and dark and white chocolate, it is such a delightful indulgence. Another interesting option is the paan kulfi which is a speciality of the restaurant. Tastes really good!
The new Barbeque Nation restaurant at Park Street is very spacious and is centrally located. Their quality has always been excellent and the price very reasonable. A meal for two would cost approx Rs 1600. Highly recommended!
