You know how they say that on the first day of a new year, if you do something you like, you will end up doing that for the entire year? Well, I ate excellent Chinese food on the first day of the Year of the Monkey and now, I have very high hopes for the rest of 2016 🙂
Lian Yun Lei, the master chef at Taj Bengal’s Chinoiserie has come up with a special veg, non-veg and seafood Chinese New Year Menu and we were invited by Taj Bengal to taste some of the dishes. Chinoiserie has for long being counted as one of the best places to have Chinese food in Kolkata and with this menu, Chef has revalidated that claim. The Fish Roe, Pork Shaomai and Mix Vegetable Quarter Full Dumplings are perfect starters for a delightful meal. Shanghai Soup Dumplings or Xiao Long Bao is probably the most famous dish to come out of Shanghai and at Chinoiserie, you can try it in the mushroom, chicken or seafood avatars.
It’s been ages since I had a good Roasted Duck and the one Chef brought out, made me extremely happy. Golden brown, thin, crisp skin on the outside and moist, tender and flavorful meat inside. Perfection! If duck is not your thing, try the Spiced Honey Chicken Legs. And if seafood is your poison, do not miss the Steamed Prawns Cantonese Style. The Chinese love steaming seafood and believe that steaming is the best way to retain the natural sweetness of seafood. Prawns, garlic, ginger and a blend of soya and sesame sauce, this dish is simple, elegant and incredibly tasty! For the vegetarians, I would recommend trying out the Five Spiced Smoked Tofu ( a great alternative to the Roasted Duck). Pair these dishes with rice or noodles. For dessert, we had Fried Icecream with Toffee Apple. Pure decadence!
The special Chinese New Year menu will be available till 21st February at Chinoiserie, Taj Bengal. The veg, non-veg and seafood set meals will include a welcome drink, dimsum and starters, soup, main course, rice, noodles and dessert. The meals are priced at Rs 3600+taxes (veg), Rs 3900+taxes (non-veg) and Rs 4200+taxes (seafood)
