The Traveller’s Essential Fashion Guide

November 3, 2017

You’ve planned your trip, bought your tickets, and picked out the places you want to visit. There’s just one thing left: what do you wear? I’ve put together this fashion guide for explorers so you’ll never be stuck again.

Don’t overpack

Think about the place you’ll be exploring — are you going in summer or winter? Will you need to cover up? — and tailor your packing list accordingly. It’s easy to fall into the trap of packing something, just in case, but do you really need to? By all means take a couple of extra items in case of emergencies, but avoid stuffing your bags with unnecessary items that won’t fit in with your plans. There’s no point taking an evening dress if you’re going to be hiking around mountains, for example.

Wear the right footwear

Wherever you go, if you’re exploring then you’ll probably be doing a lot of walking, which means the right footwear is essential. Choose shoes which are comfortable, durable, and fit in with your existing wardrobe — you’ll be more likely to get wear out of them on future trips, making them worth the investment.

What shoes do I need?

  • Good quality trainers will provide enough comfort for a city break.
  • Walking boots will take you over any kind of terrain and are perfect for hiking and more challenging walks. Make sure you pick a sturdy pair — avoid UGG boots or anything similar.
  • In some countries, like Japan, it’s easier to wear shoes that slip on and off, since many places require that you remove them before entering. Sandals will provide more support than flip flops.

Layer up

Check the weather conditions you’ll be dealing with before you depart. If it’s going to be unpredictable, or you’ll be travelling through several different places, make sure you have clothes you can layer over each other.

Light layers in natural fabrics (like cotton) work well in warmer climates. You may need a cover-up, in case the air-con is on full-blast, and it’s worth taking a hooded, fold-away waterproof for any rain showers.

If you’ll be exploring a colder climate, make sure you have a long-sleeved, woollen jumper to layer over your base, and long trousers to shelter your legs from the cold. Going to somewhere like Iceland? You may need thermals depending on the date of your trip.

Don’t forget your hat

Be sure to protect your scalp from sunburn in warmer climates, especially if you’ll be going somewhere where there’s not much shelter or shade. In colder destinations, a woolly hat and gloves will shield you from chilly winds.

Bring a secure bag

Consider carrying your belongings in an anti-theft backpack. These handy bags have a zip along the back, instead of across the top, which means your possessions will be safe from the thieving hands of pickpockets.

Respect local customs

Some areas are more conservative than others, with women being required to cover their shoulders, knees, and stomach, so make sure you know the rules and cover up when you need to.

Consider packing a scarf

Scarves are incredibly versatile. Get the right size and you can use it to keep warm, cover up (see above), or as a blanket while you’re on a train or plane. A smart scarf can also function as an accessory if you need to dress up an outfit in an instant.

Beat The Heat With Summer Shades From Titan Sunglasses

May 26, 2017

Sunglasses may be a seasonless essential, but now that summer has well and truly arrived, there’s even more reason to get a slick new pair of shades in your armoury. This year, the sunglass trend is all about quirky architectural and geometric shapes, tinted lenses, and contemporary designs and Titan Sunglasses (@titansunglasses.india) have incorporated all those trends in their Spring/Summer 2017 collection.

The new collection is inspired by exaggerated elements and features that give an elegant and sophisticated finesse to the overall look. Most of the sunglasses in the collection have polarized lenses and some of them have lenses with flash mirror as well. What I really like is that they have given a modern twist to classic and iconic silhouettes which make all the pieces very versatile. When I was asked to style the shades for a fashion post, I was quite excited. I picked out four pieces and created four looks based on their design and my individual style. Like I said earlier, the pieces are very versatile and they can be worn pretty much with everything but here’s what I’ve come up with.

The Traveller Look

I picked out this very cool pair of shades with the smoked polarized lenses and silver flash mirrors.  I styled them with a black satin bomber jacket so this look is all about the shine!

Go Desi This Festive Season With Rangriti Kurtis

November 14, 2016

A Kurti is probably one of the most versatile garments in a women’s wardrobe. You can be a desi girl and wear it with salwar/patiala or palazzo or you can add an Indo – Western touch by pairing a Kurti with trousers, jeans, leggings or even a skirt. And if you want to be even more experimental with your look, you can also wear your Kurti with a sari, making it the blouse. A Kurti is also versatile in the sense that you can wear it on pretty much every occasion. I regularly wear Kurtis to office pairing them with formal trousers. When it comes to casual dressing and if I’m going out to catch a movie, meeting up friends over coffee or lunch, if I’m out shopping, most of the time I’ll just wear a cotton kurti with either a pair of jeans, linen pants or palazzos. If it is a festive occasion, a Kurti comes to the rescue as well. I just pick out a slightly formal one with either embroidery or embellishments, wear a patiala or salwar, add a dupatta, accessorise with matching jewelry and I’m all set!

Buy Kurtis Online From Rangriti

One brand that I quite like when it comes to Indian Wear is Rangriti.  They have a wide variety of both Kurtas and Kurtis along with various bottoms that you can pair them with. Rangriti is available on pretty much all e-commerce websites but you can also Buy Kurtis Online from their official online store. The price is very reasonable and you can get Kurtis for as low as Rs 300! They also have a wide range of sizes available so it does not matter if you are thin or curvy, there is a Rangriti Kurti for you.

For The Love Of Ethnic Wear – Featuring Soch

November 10, 2016

Hello my pretties! Like me, are you also suffering from the festive season hangover? Last month was so much fun for me. There was Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Diwali and that meant a lot of parties, get togethers, family reunions, good food and obviously, new clothes. For the festive season, I only buy ethnic wear and this year, I got some clothes from the brand Soch that has just opened their new store at South City Mall.

Soch has a pretty extensive collection of stylish and elegant kurtis, suits, sarees, tunics and bottoms for all occasions. For myself, I wanted a few cotton kurtas that I can wear to semi-formal events and these are the three that I picked up. Yes, two of them are indigo (you now know my fav color!) and I paired the kurtas with silver jewelry. Let me know in the comments below which ones you liked 🙂
