One designer that I’ve been wanting to visit for the longest time in Kolkata is Abhishek Ray. I used to see pictures of Sreenanda Shankar wearing his beautiful creations and I would admire the designs, the craftsmanship and the creativity. A couple of days back, I finally met Abhishek at the bloggers meet at his new flagship store and spoke about all things fashion.

Launch of Fashion Brand Aahamori
Aahamori is the brainchild of Amrita, a Parsons School of Design graduate who seeks her inspiration from Frida Kahlo and Mexican fashion. Aahamori was officially launched in Kolkata at Maka Maka with a fashion show where models sashayed and swayed to Latino music wearing clothes and elaborate headgear that reflect the essence of Amrita’s designs – whimsical, boho-chic and fun to wear.
Introducing Aahamori
In this post, I am introducing you to Aahamori, a fashion brand and the lovely lady behind the brand, Amrita Chatterjee, a Kolkata girl who one day decided to quit her corporate job and follow her heart. Her heart lay in fashion, in Indian hand loom textiles and block prints and that prompted her to launch her own label, Aahamori. In Amrita’s words “ I take inspiration from Daily Objects. Nature comes naturally to my designs. A big fan of hand loom textile and Indian Block Prints and privileged to have worked with some legendary craftsmen who are the pride of our country. I love experimenting with natural dyes and techniques…… I am trying to use both the East and the West in a harmonious way in my designs”
Amrita officially launches Aahamori tomorrow in Kolkata and I wish her the very best. Here is a glimpse of what Aahamori offers. For more information, check out the website.
Sisterhood of Fashion – Nee & Oink
Two beautiful and talented sisters, one, trained in fashion designing and the other, in graphic designing, came together in 2011 to launch their first collection of children’s wear. Their inspiration behind launching a kids wear line? “There weren’t too many people making good-quality clothing with natural fabric for children”.
Neelakshi and Oiendrilla Ray, the Nee & Oink sisters of the eponymous brand, consider themselves privileged to grow up in a world where creativity was nurtured. It was initially founded out of a desire to fill a market void for children’s fashion they discovered while shopping for their own kids. Adhering to various requests, the trendsetting brand has now forayed into adult women’s wear, remaining true to their eclectic prints and signature cuts. Nee & Oink organised a bloggers meet at their flagship store in Jodhpur Park and I loved what I saw there. Here’s a glimpse of their children’s wear and adult women’s wear collections.
I loved the festive ethnic wear for children, the insect motifs, the zardozi embellishments and the beautiful Mughal-inspired embroidery on tops and dresses. Very classy and smart. For more information on Nee & Oink and to shop the clothes, check out their website.
